I’ve had this domain for a while now, but it was in a dormant state. So finally I decided to actually stop procrastinating and go ahead and make this site live.
Who:
My name is Nick Gorbikoff, as you probably guessed from the domain name already. It seems to me that I’m one of those rare people, who is fortunate enough to do what they love. I’m passionate about programming and networking. I’ve been doing this since I was 13, for a very very long time now I’m a proponent of Open Source, so there will be some preaching, but I’ve used and worked in Windows based environment for most of my work career, and I believe that there is place for every tool out there if it serves its purpose, so I develop on Mac for Windows and Linux (Debian) .
I coded in various languages: ASP, PHP, Perl, Java, C++, JESS, Assembly, qBasic, Javascript. But recently I’ve been introduced to Ruby and Ruby on Rails – so I do most of my programming and scripting in that wonderful language! I know, I know. Another Ruby fanboy. Well every language has it’s place, and purpose and for my needs, since I’m not doing any game programming or medical software development, etc. – Ruby is just what doctor ordered!
I’m also a big sci-fi fan; history and political science were my majors at some point back in college; I used to DJ at a rock radio station, and fiddled with writing some techno music; and I can party like nobody’s business. I’m a bilingual speaker, some of my entries are in Russian or/and about Russian and post-Soviet culture.
What:
You can expect to find some weird stuff here. Some of it is going to be just random ramblings, some about politics or history, some about music, some about Russian and American culture, some about life in general, but most of all I’m going to post some snippets of code and how-to manuals, mostly for my own reference, but hoping may be it will help someone else, struggling with the same problem.
